Edit ER diagram¶
Overview¶
Next Design's ER-Entity Diagram (Entity-Relationship Diagram) allows you to arrange the model components freely in the view and connect the components to illustrate the structure of the model.
The following describes the editing operations on the ER diagram in the following order.
- Add components
- Connect relationships between components
Info
- Since the components of the model are treated as models in Next Design, the components of the ER diagram are also models.
- In the following explanation, the edit target of the ER diagram will be referred to as the "model", the components of the ER diagram will be referred to as the "model components", or simply "components" so that they can be distinguished.
Add component¶
To add a component to your ER diagram:
Operating procedure
- Follow the basic steps below to drag and drop entities from the Toolbox.
Model Editing> Model Editing Basics> Editing with the Main Editor> Adding Models from the Toolbox
- With the added component selected, start typing and edit the component name.
Attention
- If the component is set to be added automatically, if you add the component in another view and switch to the ER diagram, the added component will be displayed near the existing component. Move it on the diagram.
Connecting relationships between components¶
Follow the steps below to connect the components with a connector in the ER diagram and show their relationship.
Operating procedure
- Move the pointer over the component you want to associate.
- Drag the [▲] icon displayed in the four directions of the component and drop it on the other component to associate.
- If there are multiple types of association, a selection will pop up after the drop, so click to select.
- Once the components have been associated, a connector appears between them.
- To delete the association, select the connector and press the Del key.
attention
- Relationships that are not defined as connectors in the profile cannot be created
- Whether to be related or not can be determined by the combination of the related source and related destination entities.
Follow the procedure below to change the shape of each connector.
Operating procedure
- Select the connector whose shape you want to change and right-click to open the context menu.
- Select one of the following shapes from [Connector Style] in the context menu.
- Straight line
- Orthogonal polygonal line
- Primary Bezier curve
- Quadratic Bezier curve
Hint
- A straight connector can be changed to a broken line by dragging the middle of the straight line.
- Orthogonal polygonal line connectors can be rerouted by dragging in the middle.
- To reset the connector route, go to Home> Alignment> Routing> Reroute ConnectorShapes from the ribbon.
- If you move a shape that has an orthogonal polyline connector attached, the connector's path is automatically routed. To temporarily turn off this automatic routing, turn it off by clicking Home> Alignment> Routing> Auto Routing from the ribbon.
